Ilove writing, the most with pencil on paper. In my studies Psychology and Communication Science at the University of Amsterdam, I professionalized my passion for words in combination with images.
After I finalised my studies with a dissertation on the history of the special interest magazine in the Netherlands, I started as a trainee at VNU, now a days Sanoma, the biggest publisher of public magazines in Holland.
Rozemarijn de Witte (initiator of the successful magazines like Living, Linda and La Vie en Rose) used to be my mentor. She offered me 8 pages a month in the biggest interior magazine of Holland, Vt Wonen. Those pages I could compose, design and write myself, which was a unique chance and very good learning school.
Finally I became coordinator and interim editor at the magazine Vt wonen. In 1997 I decided to start as a freelance photographer and journalist, specialising in travel stories (photography and text) for many different magazines and making pictures for Charities and NGO’s.
Recently I wrote an article about my experiences as a photojournalist in Southern Sudan for the magazine Lof (Mothers with a Mission.pdf). See Publications for more articles.
